“Celebrate Recovery is a discipleship program…
taking the brokenness of our lives,
giving God all our pieces and exchanging
them for His peace.”
Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. 25 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Celebrate Recovery has helped more than 17,000 people at Saddleback, attracting over 70% of its members from outside the church. Eighty-five percent of the people who go through the program stay with the church and nearly half serve as church volunteers.
Celebrate Recovery is now in over 20,000 churches worldwide!
History of Celebrate Recovery at GCM
Celebrate Recovery arrived in Manila in the year 2005 when a team from Saddleback Church came led by Bob Wood and his wife, Karrie. Purpose Driven Southeast Asia organized the two-day seminar, March 12 & 14, attended by people from many local churches. It was a full packed event. Six of us from GCM attended, namely, P. Roy & Len Villareal, Noemi Empeño, May Chua, Emma Tiu, and Lucy Cheng.
August of the same year, Ms. Marianne Francisco, coordinator of CR ministry at Purpose Driven started training our core group of ten, Ate May, Emma, Lucy, Edden, Elvie, Babes, Jean, Perlie, Minnie, and brother Eloy. It is amazing how God used this inexperienced group to start the CR ministry in our church. Even more unbelievable, God used our group to help train other churches to set up their own CR ministry in South Metro Alabang, Iloilo City, Baliuag Bulacan, and the latest in Talayan, Quezon City. God continues to use the CR ministry to reach others, bringing healing and freedom from their life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups with the message of hope through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Changing lives, one day at a time.
To our eternal loving Almighty God, all praise and glory!
The Mission of Celebrate Recovery at GCM is to provide a safe place and an accountability group for people who are seeking freedom from their hurts, habits, and hang-ups, so that through Jesus Christ they can find healing and grow spiritually to become useful vessels of God, effectively using their SHAPE for God’s glory.
The vision of Celebrate Recovery is to be a ministering arm of the church in reaching hurting people in the community for Christ, following the direction of the church in its goal to achieve spiritual and numerical growth in the accomplishment of the Great Commission.
Realize I’m not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
“Happy are those who know that they are spiritually poor.”
Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover.
“Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
“Happy are the meek.”
Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.
“Happy are the pure in heart.”
Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.
“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires”
Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others when possible, except when to do so would harm them or others.
“Happy are the merciful.” “Happy are the peacemakers”
Reserve a time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.
Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words.
“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.”
My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding —
indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
Father, I choose to accept Your Word. Help me meditate and memorize Your Words so I may store Your commands within me. Whenever You speak, I will turn a listening ear to You. Grant me wisdom so I may understand Your Words. Create in me a deep desire for Your insight and understanding in the same way I will look for hidden treasures. Give me an expectant heart that if these will be my attitude towards You and Your Words, I will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
